Forth Clyde & Union Canals

The Forth & Clyde Canal runs from The Clyde in Glasgow to The Forth at Grangemouth. At Falkirk, a few miles southwest of Grangemouth, it meets the Union Canal at the 35m high Falkirk Wheel. The two canals cover a total of 35 miles and pass through 39 locks.
The canals had lain derelict for years until a regeneration programme saw them re-opened them in 2001.
Opened in May 2002, The Falkirk Wheel is the world's first rotating boat lift and currently the only one of its kind in the world.
