The North Downs Way

The North Downs Way (156 miles in total) is a spoon shaped trail, following a chalk ridge from Farnham in Surrey through Guildford, Redhill and Sevenoaks to Ashford, Canterbury, Dover, Folkestone and back round to Ashford.
The NDW was opened in 1978 and is the eastern section of an ancient trading route, known as the Pilgrims' Way, that ran from Winchester to Canterbury. The trail developed over 5000 years ago when England was first separated from mainland Europe. Dover was an important trading post and the route enabled the transport of lead, tin and iron from the west country.
This walk was started in December 2002, with Julie and Abi, as part of my training for Everest Base Camp. We got just under halfway through when babies and then weddings stopped play! Abi & I got started again spring 2007 and finished mid summer 07.
For more information on the North Downs Way check out the National Trails website and The Ramblers Association website.
